Meet the Team

Brandon Burke
Triton President

Brandon is a Freediver Instructor Trainer and spearfisherman. As the Owner/Founder of Odyssey Freediving, he has broadened the reach of Northern California freediving and spearfishing through instruction, community events, and bringing local manufacturing of dive products to Monterey Bay. In 2026 he opened a store location in Moss Landing to serve the community and serve as a base for manufacturing gear that is upcycled from marine salvage projects. When not teaching courses or organizing Triton events, he enjoys underwater photography, spearfishing his favorite hunting grounds of Big Sur, and spending time with his wife.

Nick Hernandez
Triton Vice President

Nick Hernandez grew up in Santa Barbara, California, and has been freediving for over 20 years, with more than a decade of experience in the dive industry. He moved to Monterey to earn his degree in Marine Science and has called Monterey Bay home ever since. Nick is passionate about responsible, sustainable hunting and enjoys harvesting along the California coast. Outside the water, he’s an avid upland game hunter, bringing the same precision and discipline to both shotgun and speargun.

Canyon Cali
Triton Secretary

A California native, Canyon grew up spearfishing and diving for abalone all over Northern California since he was a kid. He grew up taking numerous trips to Baja, and now guides professionally. Canyon is known for his friendly and welcoming attitude to all Tritons and people interested in freediving and spearfishing. He is a strong freediver and longtime spearo who has traveled the world in search of fishing and spearfishing adventures. He continues the heritage of NorCal diving by organizing tournaments and teaching others about the Lost Coast.

Naomi Lear
Triton Marketing Director

Naomi is an avid spearfisher and yoga instructor with Odyssey Freediving. She developed a passion for conservation and the outdoors while living in the Swiss pre-Alps and became a certified California Naturalist, yoga instructor, and freediver in Monterey Bay. She finds joy in spearfishing as a modality to connect to body, breath, and the local ecosystem. Outside of Monterey’s kelp forests you will find her testing recipes with local ingredients, hiking, tidepooling, and reading in the sun with her two cats.

Nicholas Garmulewicz
Triton Treasurer

Nick grew up sailing, skiing, and hiking in British Columbia before eventually landing in San Francisco, where he traded the mountains for the ocean and never looked back. He picked up freediving and spearfishing about two years ago and immediately became obsessed, spending most of his free time in the water or geeking out over gear. A passionate advocate for NorCal’s kelp forests, he considers them among the most beautiful ecosystems on the planet. As Treasurer, he finally found a way to combine his two passions: spreadsheets and the sea.

Richard Margoluis
Triton Board Advisor

Richard Margoluis is a spearfisherman with a deep connection to the ocean, spending much of his time freediving and spearfishing alongside his son Kian. His passion for the water is matched by a strong commitment to stewardship, mentorship, and sharing the experience across generations.

Professionally, Richard brings extensive experience in the nonprofit sector with a background rooted in environmental driven work. As a Board Advisor, he plays a key role in helping guide the club’s vision and ensuring it remains grounded in community, purpose, and long-term impact.

Kristopher Morales
Triton Officer

Kris is a seasoned spearfisherman and angler from Monterey Peninsula. He grew up spending countless weekends diving for abalone and kayak fishing along the northern coast of California. Passionate about the community around the sport, Kris is dedicated to revitalizing the support and connection for divers he received as a young waterman. When he’s not diving or fishing, you can find Kris mountain biking, camping, tinkering with his sewing machine, and enjoying delicious pastries.

Wasen Ventura
Triton Officer

Wasen Ventura was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, where a deep connection to the ocean shaped his life from an early age. Whether in, on, or beneath the water, he has always felt most at home in the ocean. With experience as both a recreational and competitive spearfisherman, Wasen brings a well-rounded and disciplined approach to the sport. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others and is especially focused on teaching and inspiring the next generation of divers. For Wasen, the ocean isn’t just a place—it’s a way of life. Dive safe and often.
